Spirit Message of the Moment for Kids! – Happy New Year 2014

BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF
“This card indicates that you’re hiding your true feelings and aren’t being forthright about an important topic. The fairies urge you to admit your true feelings to yourself.

298080_281878188495957_4326101_nDo you feel stuck? Sad or angry? These are all symptoms that arise when we’re dishonest with ourselves. Maybe you feel that you can’t afford to be honest with yourself and that you don’t have a choice. This card isn’t asking you to make any radical life changes or have a confrontation with another person. However, it is urging you to admit your true feelings to yourself.

One easy way to get in touch with your true feelings is by going outside and engaging in a silent conversation with the fairies who live amidst the flowers, trees, and grass. Even if you can’t yet see 479912_300187596763464_968579783_nor hear the fairies, mentally tell them everything you’re thinking, feeling, and experiencing these days. Ask them to help you get in touch with your deepest feelings. The fairies love to hold a mirror up to us so that we can see and admit the truth.

Affirmation: It’s safe for me to be honest with myself and others. I speak my truth with love.”

Spirit Message of the Moment for KIDS! – Make A Wish – or Two

IT’S TIME TO MAKE A WISH
“This is a magical moment. Make a wish, and enjoy its manifestation.”

“Say an affirmation prayer right now, which means stating your desire as if it were already true. Thank the Universe for this reality, and feel in your heart and belly that your dream is actually a reality. For example, say, “Thank you World, for (whatever your desire is). I’m truly grateful for your continuous support.”istock_000020196xsmall

“Now is the magical moment. Go into a quiet space – even if it’s just for a moment. Close your eyes, and imagine that your wish  has come true. Feel it with your entire being. Then, express thanks for this gift, and release it like a helium balloon that goes straight to the Moon. If you need to take action to co-create this wish, you’ll be given strong and repetitive guidance in the form of feelings, thoughts, ideas, inner words, signs, visions, or dreams. It’s important that you follow this guidance in order to bring the wish into physical form.”

Send your positive wish out to the Universe and let go of all expectations about fulfillment and how it might come to pass, and when. Be open to receiving in all different forms.  Release your worries and don’t over think it. Everything that is yours will come to you in its own perfect and unique time. Now is the time for changes. Just believe and so it is. The Universe is always eager to help those who are first willing to help themselves by stepping forward with action towards making their dreams a reality.

Spirit Message of the Moment for KIDS! – Explore Your Ancestory

WHO WERE YOUR ANCESTORS?
“Ancestors are those from whom we are descended, with a lineage that starts with our parents and grandparents and stretches back hundreds and even thousands of years. We cargrandmothers_handsry our ancestor’s bloodline and are connected to them both genetically and spiritually in an underlying continuity of which we may only barely be aware. Although environment and circumstance contribute to shaping us – particularly when we’re young – an innate thread of kinship exists that has run the course of history for thousands of years and is contained in our bodies and in our being.”

“Since we’re biologically and soulfully connected to these spirit beings, we can readily call upon them for guidance and assistance in matters concerning our family, community, and ourselves. No matter our lineage, we have much to learn from our ancestors.”

MESSAGE FOR YOU
“You have within you the blood of your ancestors. You are deeply connected to your lineage, the most immediate proof of that being the physical resemblance you have to your mother and father and perhap392077_276696215763900_1827048272_ns even your grandparents. Yet beyond that, although unknown to your usual senses, you are connected to an ancestory that reaches back through the millennia. This is the time to call upon those ancestors, those who are of your bloodline as well as though ancient ones who have walked the land that you now walk.”

“In many cultures, it is believed that the essence of your ancestors inhabits many of the physical aspects of the land. In other words, they are in the trees, the water, the air, the animals, the stones – their blood being in the very dirt and sand you tread upon.”

“Next time you are outside, allow your senses to open to those ancestors who abide in the physical world. And anytime at all, allow your heart to open to those spirits to whom you are related through your heredity and those to whom you are connected by virtue of the land upon which you live.”

Spirit Message of the Moment for KIDS! – Listen To Your Feelings

IT’S TIME TO LISTEN TO YOUR TRUE FEELINGS
“This card means that someone might ask you to do something against your better judgement. You may be tempted to give in, to please the other person. You might worry that if you say no, the other person won’t like you anymore. But this card reminds you that it’s very important for you to listen to your true feelings before taking any action. You must choose for yourself what’s right and wrong.”

“If you feel confused, then talk with someone you trust, such as your mother or father, teacher or best friend. You can also speak to your angels. In the end, though, you must decide what’s right for you. This choice must come from your inner voice, not from outside pressure. Choose the path that will make you happiest in the long run. Some choices only feel good temporarily, and then afterward you feel let down. The best choices make you feel happy for a long, long time.”

“To hear your true feelings, you’ll need to make some quiet time. Close the door of your room and turn off all noises. Shut your eyes and breathe deeply. Then ask a question in your mind and listen: Listen to your body, your heart, and your mind. Write down everything that you think, see, hear, and feel from within. Take the action that you know, in your heart, is the right thing to do.”

Spirit Message of the Day for KIDS! – Sunny Garden Crafts

A CHILDREN’S GARDEN: 7 Sunny Garden Crafts

Treat your backyard as an extension of your home and decorate it with these clever family craft projects.

BUMPER CROP
Create a children’s garden in old toys. Bonus feature: You can wheel them in and out of the sunlight when necessary. Use a metal drill bit to create drainage holes about 6″ apart, and cover with screen mesh to prevent any loss of soil.

LIGHT BRIGHT
Paint plastic jars with outdoor craft paint and create a handle with colorful wire (12-gauge colored wire, $6; jamaligarden.com). Use a battery-powered candle to illuminate the lantern at night and explore your backyard’s wildlife

WHEELY CUTE
Use vinyl sheeting to make a classic lawn ornament that can survive the elements. What You’ll Need: Thick plastic or vinyl sheeting (available at fabric stores), scissors, 1/4″ hole punch, skewers, glue, 2″-long nail (shank should be less than 1/4″ in diameter), hammer, hot-glue gun, 1″-thick dowel, button.

Make It

1. Cut two 8″x8″ vinyl squares and stack with one on top of the other.

2. Cut 4 1/2″ slits from each corner toward the center through both squares. Punch a hole to the right of each slit near upper edge.

3. Trim four skewers to 5″ and glue between the layers of vinyl to the left of each slit. This keeps the points of the pinwheel from folding in.

4. Punch a hole in the center of the two stacked squares using a nail. Fold all hole-punched flaps up to the center hole, line up the holes, and insert the nail through all four holes.

5. Hammer nail into side of the dowel, then hot-glue button to nail head.

SET IN STONE
Use rock-garden markers to label plants and herbs. What You’ll Need: Large, smooth stones, fabric scraps, pinking shears, letter stamps, VersaCraft ink pad ($8; rubberstampplace.com), iron, craft glue, outdoor matte or glossy varnish (Delta Ceramcoat Protect Exterior/Interior Varnish, $4; sears .com), brush

Make It

1. Cut fabric with pinking shears so that it mostly covers the top of the stone.

2. Stamp name of plant on fabric and let dry. Iron to set ink.

3. Put 3 to 4 small dots of glue around the edge of the back of the fabric and set on top of the stone.

4. Brush a thick coat of varnish over fabric and down and around edges of the rock. Let dry completely. Repeat with a second coat and let dry.

TWEET TREAT
Feed the feathered friends in your yard with this cool canopy bird feeder. To watch a how-to video, download our tablet edition at parents.com/digital or go to parents.com/bird-feeder. What You’ll Need: Bamboo bowl (Bamboo Studio 7″ square bowls, $7 for eight; internatural.com), bamboo plate (Bamboo Studio 11″ round plates, $9 for eight; internatural.com), outdoor craft paint, paintbrush, 1/8″ hole punch, colored twine, scissors, colored beads, sharp tool, tacky glue

Make It

1. Paint the bottom of the bowl and the bottom of the plate. Let dry.

2. With a hole punch, punch holes in the corners of the bowl. Cut four lengths of twine (2 to 3 feet long) and thread twine down through the holes; knot securely underneath.

3. Thread small beads onto each strand to rest at each corner of the bowl. Tie all four strands together with a knot about 6″ above the top rim of bowl.

4. Poke a hole in the center of the plate with sharp object. Make sure hole is big enough so that all strands of twine can feed through it. Insert strands into hole in plate and let it rest on knot.

5. Glue beads in desired pattern around the twine, with one bead in the center; thread strands through center bead.

JOY STICKS
Paint 14″- to 18″-long sticks and hammer them into the ground about 3″ apart with a rubber mallet. Weave thin nylon rope through them to create a colorful border for your garden.

INTO THE WIND
Listen to the tinkling sounds of buttons, bells, and bottle caps with this outdoor chime. What You’ll Need: Bottle caps (crown bottle caps, $3 to $4 for 50; amazon.com), outdoor craft paint (optional), paintbrush (optional), fishing line, scissors, bells, tacky glue, buttons, 4″-tall flowerpot (plastic or ceramic) with a hole in the bottom, hot-glue gun

Make It

1. Paint bottle caps in the colors of your choice. Let dry. (Skip this step if buying colored bottle caps.)

2. Cut seven 18″ pieces of fishing line. Tie a bell to the end of each strand.

3. Put a dot of tacky glue on bottle cap, set the fishing line in the glue (starting about an inch above the bell), and sandwich it with a button. Repeat five or six times per strand, about 12″ up the piece of fishing line. Let dry.

4. Feed the ends of all strands through the holes of a large button (it must be bigger than the pot’s drainage hole) and secure with a knot about 4 1/2″ above the top bottle cap. Feed the strands up through the drainage hole.

5. So that the strands don’t cluster in the middle, hot-glue fishing line to the inside edge of the pot, evenly spaced around the circumference.

6. Tie another piece of fishing line in a tight knot to the top to hang.

Spirit Message of the Day for KIDS! – Crafts for Beltane 2012

IDEAS TO CELEBRATE MAY DAY 2012

Glorious Garlands
“May Day is a special holiday to honor the return of spring. Guests at May Day festivities are often “wreathed” — sometimes wearing crowns of green leaves. Here’s how to make a Glorious Garland.

What You’ll Need: Leaves, Stems, Flowers

Go on a leaf hunt. Look for a bunch of the same kind of leaves with strong stems. Break off the stems, but hold on to them. Overlap the leaves and push the broken-off stems through the leaves as if they were pins to hold them together. Make a chain of leaves. When your leaf chain is long enough to fit around your head, fasten the final leaf to the first one. Add flowers by slipping their stems under the stem-pins on the top side of the leaves. (Warning! If you live in an area where poison ivy or poison oak grow, make sure you know what they look like before you go leaf hunting. They could give you a terrible rash.)

May Day Baskets
Surprise your neighbors with a May Day basket of flowers. This May Day consider making May Day baskets and giving them to neighbors and friends as gifts. Here’s how to make a May Day basket for your neighbor.

What You’ll Need: Poster board, Pencil, Ruler, Wallpaper with spring pattern, White paste, Stapler, Fresh flowers.

Draw a circle 5 inches across and a strip 10×1 inches on the poster board. Cut them out. Use the poster board circle and strip as a pattern. Lay them on the back of the wallpaper. Trace around them. You will need two wallpaper circles and two wallpaper strips for each basket. Cover one side of your poster board circle with glue, and glue a wallpaper circle to it with the pretty side up. Cover one side of your poster board strip with glue, and glue a wallpaper strip to it, pretty side up. Turn the strip over, and glue the other wallpaper strip to the other side.

Lay your circle on the table wallpaper-side-down. Center the strip, and glue it across the middle of the circle. Glue the last wallpaper circle pretty-side-up on top of the strip. Turn it over. Pull the ends of the strip together to make a handle. (The sides of your basket will curl up.) Staple the handle together at the top.”

Spirit Message of the Day for KIDS! – It’s Time for a Good Laugh

LAUGHTER
“You need a good laugh! You’ve been so serious lately that you’re feeling stressed. It’s time to lighten up and see the humor in the situation. There’s always something to laugh about. Think about it for a minute: What part of your life is like a movie? What parts are funny? Laughing with love is very healing. Sometimes the best way to heal a situation is to step away from it. Can you read a funny book or watch a comedy on TV? Can you get together with friends and tell silly jokes? It feels good to laugh hard, especially with loved ones.”

MESSAGE FOR YOU
“This card asks you to see the humor within each situation, and not take life so seriously. You can ease your own stress and that of others with humor and laughter. Learn to feel joy, no matter what’s happening around you. Laughter and joy are magical because they bring happy situations into your life.”

Spirit Message of the Day for KIDS! – Lammas, A Pagan Holiday 2011

A PAGAN SABBAT –
Lammas/Lughnasadh August 1, 2011

Lammas is the first of three Pagan harvest festivals, and takes place on August 1, right around the time of the early grain harvests. It’s the dog days of summer, the gardens are full of goodies, the fields are full of grain, and the harvest is approaching. Take a moment to relax in the heat, and reflect on the upcoming abundance of the fall months. At Lammas, sometimes called Lughnasadh, it’s time to begin reaping what we have sown throughout the past few months, and recognize that the bright summer days will soon come to an end. Take some time to plan your celebrations, and if you want to learn more about the significance of Lammas, click here to read the Spiritblogger’s Blog.

ARTS & CRAFTS
Looking for some fun and inexpensive ways to decorate your home for Lammas? Make an easy grapevine pentacle, apple candleholders, a cornhusk chain and Lammas incense as a way to celebrate the season.

MAKE A BERRY BRACELET FOR LAMMAS
In parts of Ireland, it was tradition to weave a bracelet of bilberries for that special someone you have a crush on. Here’s how you can put one together. In some counties in Ireland, it became traditional to celebrate Bilberry Sunday at the beginning of August. Everyone went out with buckets to gather berries, and it was custom that a big berry harvest in August meant the rest of the crops would be bountiful a few weeks later. Berry-picking was also an excuse to sneak off into the woods with your special someone for a moment alone. Young men plaited fruit and vines into bracelets and crowns for their ladies. Afterwards, the best berries were eaten at a big fair, complete with singing, dancing, and general social merrymaking.

You can make a berry bracelet easily, if you can find firm berries that still have stalks attached to them. Ideally, if you can pick them right before you begin this project, you’ll get a really nice result. You’ll need:

  • Berries
  • A needle
  • Sturdy cotton thread

Thread the needle with the cotton thread. Run the needle through the stalks of the berries to make a bracelet. If you have other items handy, like seeds or nuts, feel free to add those into the mix as well. Give them to a loved one to wear as a Lammas token.

LAMMAS REBIRTH INCENSE
Lammas is the time when the harvest is just beginning, and so many Pagans and Wiccans celebrate the cycle of life, death and rebirth. Burn this hearty rebirth incense as part of your Lammas rituals, and give thanks for the blessings of abundance in your life.

CELEBRATE THE CYCLE OF LIFE & REBIRTH AT LAMMAS
By the time Lammas rolls around, it’s usually pretty hot. In some parts of the world, gardens are beginning to dry out, and the earth has gone from soft and pliable to dry and cracked. If you haven’t harvested your herbs yet for drying, now is a good time to start doing so — in other words, pick them before they die on their own. Any fresh herb can be dried simply by picking it and tying it up in small bundles in a well-ventilated area. Once they are completely dry store them in airtight jars in a dark place.

To make your own magical Lammas incense, first determine what form you’d like to make. You can make incense with sticks and in cones, but the easiest kind uses loose ingredients, which are then burned on top of a charcoal disc or tossed into a fire. This recipe is for loose incense, but you can adapt it for stick or cone recipes.

As you mix and blend your incense, focus on the intent of your work. In this particular recipe, we’re creating an incense to use during a Lammas rite — it’s a time to celebrate the beginning of the harvest. We’re thankful for the foods we’ve grown, and for the bounty of the earth, and the knowledge that we’ll have enough to eat through the coming winter months.

You’ll need:

  • 1 part basil
  • 1/2 part cinnamon bark
  • 1 part coriander
  • 2 parts goldenrod
  • 1 part heather
  • 1/2 part rosemary
  • 2 parts Sweet Annie (you can use dried apple blossoms if you
    don’t have Sweet Annie)
  • 1 part yarrow

MIXING UP SOME MAGICK
Add your ingredients to your mixing bowl one at a time. Measure carefully, and if the leaves or blossoms need to be crushed, use your mortar and pestle to do so. As you blend the herbs together, state your intent. You may find it helpful to charge your incense with an incantation, such as:

We’re thankful this day for the gift of rebirth,
Fruits and vegetables, the bounty of earth.
For the Harvest Mother with her basket and scythe,
Abundance and fertility, and the blessings of life.
We’re grateful for the gifts we carry within
And for what will become, and what has been.
A new day begins, and life circles round,
As grain is harvested from the fertile ground.
Blessings to the earth and to the gods from me,
As I will this Lammas, so it shall be.

Store your incense in atightly sealed jar. Make sure you label it with its intent and name, as well as the date you created it. Use within three months, so that it remains charged and fresh.
